"Cavern catastrophe"

Films: The Cave (2005)

Alias: Various

Type: Ancient

Location: Cave

Height/Weight: Twice that of average humans.

Summary: Ah, cave diving. The exploration thrill that keeps claustrophobics up at night and adventurers on their feet. But most of the time, people just do it because those hidden caves are there. Then again, maybe they're hidden for a reason...

History: Deep within underground caves located in the Romanian Carpathian Mountains, there is something that early man has tried desperately to keep imprisoned. Back then, some people discovered a deadly parasite living in the caves, and anyone who got infected transformed into demonic-looking monsters. But eventually, a bunch of people came into the place for the sake of discovery. Soon, they will know what makes these caves no-man's land...

Notable Kills: Nothing special.

Final Fate: The survivors manage to escape the caves as the place starts to collapse, taking most of the infected monsters with it. However, at least one person is still infected with the parasite, and is now out in public. Either the human race is doomed to become winged terrors, or the only monster will be her.

Powers/Abilities: The infected slowly evolve into winged humanoids, developing super-senses along with way.

Weakness: Anything conventional, possibly sunlight.

Scariness Factor: 4-You may not be able to see them completely well, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. These things practically earned their inspiration of demons into the hearts of those who somehow survived their encounter with them. It's bad enough that their early forms are parasites that occupy whoever is near them, but the fact that they turn into savage bat monstrosities makes these caves Hell on Earth.

Trivia: -Truth be told, many Romanian underground caves have been found to contain rather niche ecosystems. In the 1980s, over 35 new species were discovered in the Movila Caves alone.

-In order for the underwater photography to work, the filmmakers designed a 750,000 gallon tank.
